REPORT ON GLIOBLASTOMA MULTIFORME STAGE IV.
HUSBAND’S TESTIMONIAL

On October 1, 2002, I found my wife on the dining room floor of my home. She was very dizzy and I helped her to get to the sofa As she lay there, I noticed a couple of jerky motions which caused me great worry.
I got her into our car and took her to the emergency section of a local hospital, St. Mary’s.  Within a few days of testing, it was discovered that she had a brain tumor or tumors. It was later confirmed to be a GBM, glioblastoma multiforme stage IV brain tumor, through a pathology report done at UCLA. The main problem discovered was a tumor on the left occipital lobe, near the back of brain. This was the beginning of a torturous experience.

My wife’s stay in the hospital was about one week and she then returned home.

In early November, 2002, my wife experienced seizures.  I again took my wife to St. Mary’s Hospital.  The tumor on her left occipital lobe had grown.  She was put on dilantin, an anti seizure medication, and decadron to reduce swelling.  The neurosurgeon showed me the MRI and the various spots where tumor growths probably were. The main focus of attention was again, the left occipital lobe.  He basically said: we could operate, use radiation and not even bother with chemotherapy.  He predicted my wife had just a few months to live. This was November 2002. She was in the hospital for approximately one week.

An operation to remove the tumor was needed as soon as possible. We arranged for the operation to be done at UCLA on December 18, 2002. This was a successful operation.  My wife was sent to a nearby hospital, Brotman’s, for rehab and was doing very well. We were to return to UCLA to see her surgeon in about two or three weeks.  Her surgeon wanted new MRI scans done before she saw her next.  They were done at Brotman’s.
